TVAA Soccer Championships are Set

 

On Thursday, October 18th the Tri Valley Athletic Association will host the 2018 Girls and Boys Soccer Championships at Upper Dauphin Area High School. The girls game will kick off at 5:30 PM as the Northern Division Champion East Juniata will take on the Susquenita the Southern Division Champion. The boys game will feature the Eastern Division Champion Halifax and the Western Division Champion Greenwood.


In the early game the East Juniata Lady Tigers have dominated league play with a perfect 12-0 record. The Lady Tigers have outscored their TVAA opponents an astounding 117-3. East Juniata has a ton of scoring power led by Senior Hailey Swartz (27 Goals, 5 Assists, 59 Points), Sophomore Keirtstyn Fogle (22 Goals, 10 Assists, 54 Points) and, Junior Thea Neimond (17 Goals, 11 Assists, 45 Points), Senior Leah Sankey leads the league with 9 Assists. A solid defense has kept Senior Keeper Kayla Forry’s shots against to a minimum of she has 24 saves and only allowed three goals in league play.


The Susquenita Lady Hawks claimed the Southern Division title with a 6-6 record. ‘Nita is led offensively by Sophomore Mikala Nicholson (6 Goals, 4 Assists, 16 Points) and Gabby Kichman (6 Goals). The Lady Hawks defense has 5 shutouts (2nd Most in League) and is led by Seniors Haley Zettlemoyer and Samantha Schoffstall. Sophomore Maura Bradney (87 saves, 28 Goals Against) guards the net for the Lady Hawks.


The late game will feature a battle of the Wildcats as Greenwood will take the pitch with Halifax.

Greenwood brings in a perfect 14-0 into the Championship game, scoring a league best 68 goals while only allowing 3 goals in league play. Head Coach Aaron Anstine’s squad is led offensively by Senior, Luke Myers (15 Goals, 10 Assists, 40 Points) and Junior, Glenn Rice (13 Goals, 8 Assists, 34 Points). Senior Mason Kaufman has distributed to ball well as he has 7 Assists The Greenwood defense has been solid along with Senior Bryce Dalpiaz who mans the cage with 37 saves and 3 goals against in league play.


Halifax sports a 12-2 league mark with both of their losses coming at the hands of Greenwood.

Senior, Caden Minnich is the leagues top scorer with 20 goals, 4 assist and 44 points total. Senior, Matt Stout is another weapon for Coach Jeff Kerstetter with 9 goals and 7 assists. Senior, Ryan Taylor is in goal for Halifax, Taylor has 69 saves and 11 goals against in league play.
